What's in a photograph

I've always had a passion for photography. And no, this is not one of those "I got my first camera when I was 5" kind of stories! In fact, I didn't get my first camera until I was 19. It was about 3 mega pixels and I still have it today!

My passion was the photographs. I just love looking at photographs. Even at a young age, I remember walking slowly around my Nanna's lounge room and taking in all the faces that she proudly displayed. Seeing how much each one of us had changed over the years, and laughing at each other as if we hadn't seen them a thousand times before!

My mum had a tonne of photos too. I found some old photos in a box the other day and dragged them out to show Holly. She was fascinated. We sat together for hours going over them. I told her stories and pointed out familiar faces. She giggled at how little I was and how funny we all looked. There were some photos of David that his mum had passed on to me years ago. We both found ourselves telling stories about 'that day' or what we used to get up to, and even justifying our dreadful taste in fashion!

It's this passion for photos that drove me to be a photographer. Knowing what a photo can mean to someone. When you pick up a photograph, the way it can take you back to another place and time. Memories really do come flooding back. There is a real connection to a photograph that you can't get from a computer screen or a mobile phone! The memories and the sentiments they hold long after the people in them have gone. We have lost many special people in my family over the years, some far too early, and thanks to the photos and our memories they will never be forgotten.
